Don't F*ck with My Whales!

Sorry, but I've now had enough:

Enough hypocricy, enough brutality, enough lies and spin-doctoring and official posturing to cause me to speak out about something that I know well - modern man's assault on the most magnificent creatures of the sea, the whales, dolphins, and porpoises that are our neighbors and intelligent kin on this planet.

I did not ask for this job. It was forced upon me by circumstance. It was curiosity that drove me to the whaling stations at Richmond California, USA to learn the fine details of cetacean anatomy that allowed me to glimpse at their remarkable abilities; and, it was insensitivity in my culture that allowed me to continue my studies in the offal left over after the whale meat had been sold for pet food. It was further insensitivity when I left this studious endeavor to embark on adventure to far-away islands to study and band oceanic birds that were blastfully exposed to biological warfare agents, secret to our government and banned by others.

And, then I was drafted. I leapt at the opportunity to serve my country in a time of war (Vietnam), but I wanted to do so on my terms. I joined the US Navy and trained as an aviator in the testosterone infused top-gun fashion, and I endured the tail-hook scandal that demonstrated a certain insensitivity to females of our species (that persists to some degree today). I earned my wings of gold and then stumbled in to a world of underwater sound, the SOSUS system, that allowed me a further glimpse into the incredible acoustic world of my magnificent mammals of the sea. Depart this egocentric diatribe now if you must, but read on to the next pages (Portraits and Documentary) if you will - to find out what the f*ck this is all about.
